AMCHP 2024 Annual Conference Session & Poster Proposals
The 2024 AMCHP Annual Conference will be held April 13-16, 2024 at the Oakland Marriott, City Center, in Oakland, CA. At this time, AMCHP will be offering content in-person and through our virtual conference platform so that in-person and virtual attendees can actively engage and participate. The Call for Proposals will close on November 03, 2023. The deadline will NOT be extended!

Theme The theme for the 2024 conference is Partnering with Purpose. This year’s annual conference theme focuses on how people who work in MCH can partner with meaning to make an impact on children and families. This means that we are being intentional with who we partner with and how we engage with partners. With the conference theme Partnering with Purpose, we invite you to include people with lived experience as speakers in your proposals. Here are some ways that you could think of this year’s theme:
• Partnering with purpose calls us to admit that we cannot know and do everything on our own. We can go so much further by working together.
• Partnering with purpose pushes us to understand and clarify our own intentions when we work with others.
• Partnering with purpose invites us to ask important questions about power – how do good partnerships share and build power? How are our partnerships amplifying voices of the people we serve?
• Partnering with purpose is authentic and based on relationships rather than contracts or outputs. It is the opposite of being self-centered and insincere.
• Partnering with purpose allows us to combine our resources, ideas, and skills for greater impact.
• Partnering with purpose opens a space for us to think about seeking out new people or organizations we may not have worked with before, but who have a similar vision and goals.
AMCHP is striving to ensure that at least 50% of accepted proposal submissions directly address the conference theme; please reference the conference objectives to determine whether your proposal addresses the conference theme or highlights key programs and advancements in MCH.

AMCHP Culture

Our audience includes directors of state programs, federal officials, advocates, family leaders, researchers, and health care providers. We use opportunities like the AMCHP conference to live up to our commitments, including having honest conversations about racism in our areas of influence and challenging racism, explicit bias, and implicit bias wherever they exist.

Who Should Submit a Proposal?
The AMCHP Annual Conference highlights the impact MCH programs are making at national, state, and local levels for women, children and families. It provides participants with strategies, tools and resources to develop, improve, and support needed MCH programs and services. With over 1,300 annual attendees, it is one of the largest gatherings of MCH professionals in the country. AMCHP invites people with lived experiences and partners outside our “traditional” membership, including community members, those working at community-based and community-rooted organizations, and those representing tribal governments, to participate in submitting and presenting skills-building sessions, workshops, poster sessions, and roundtables.

Plan Accordingly
AMCHP staff estimated it takes about 4-5 hours to pull all of the content pieces together, and 15-20 minutes to fill out the forms for the actual submission. Therefore, please plan ahead for the due date of November 03, 2023.

We will offer virtual options for posters, roundtables, and workshops. Skills-building sessions will be offered on-site only.

| Workshops | 60 minutes in length, Workshops are informative sessions that often include a panel of presenters representing varying perspectives, include audience interaction, and have at least 15 minutes for Questions & Answers (Q&A). | 45 minutes of presentation time with 15 minutes for discussion and Q&A; up to seven sessions will take place during one workshop timeslot; up to two of the workshop sessions will be livestreamed or hosted virtually for virtual conference participants. | Workshop presenters attending in-person and not being livestreamed are encouraged to record their presentation prior to the conference for uploading into the conference platform for virtual participants and for in-person participants who do not attend their workshop during a workshop timeslot. |

| Student and Early Career Professional Roundtables | This is an opportunity for students and early career professionals to tap into the expertise of established and other emerging MCH professionals from across the country. Students and early career professionals whose submissions are accepted will share five-minute presentations about a topic they would like to explore in greater depth, including any questions for which they are seeking guidance. There will be time right after each presentation for attendees to discuss with the presenter; this can include sharing relevant consideration, resources, or connections to others engaged in similar or complementary efforts. | 60 minutes of interactive presentations, audience discussion and feedback, for live attendees only. | 60 minutes of live, interactive presentations, audience discussion and feedback on web conferencing platform, for virtual attendees only. |
Inclusive Terms
We are committed to not using terms that worsen stereotypes or incorrect beliefs that place and describe communities of color as inferior populations (i.e. using the terms ‘vulnerable’, ‘at-risk’, or ‘low-income’ to describe a particular racial or ethnic group). Use of this language suggests there is something inherently wrong in that community and places blame on the individual or a particular racial/ethnic group. Language should be respectful of communities and identify the system that has failed to invest in creating an inclusive and supportive environment for positive health outcomes as the problem.
