Call for Presentations
OVERVIEW
The New York State School Boards Association is pleased to announce its Call for Presentations for NYSSBA's Annual Convention & Education Expo, which will be held in-person at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center & Hyatt Regency Buffalo from Oct. 26-28, 2023. The deadline for submission of presentation proposals is Monday, March 27, 2023.
This is your chance to share your knowledge and expertise with school board members and education leaders across New York State.
AUDIENCE
All levels of board service – newly elected to veteran board members
Board Officers - Presidents and Vice Presidents
Superintendents and other administrators in NYS P-12 public education
SUBMISSION OPTIONS
Best Practices & Innovations
A 75-minute session designed around a topic of interest to school board members. Topics include:
Board Governance, Communications, Long Term Planning, Safety & Supportive Schools, Special Education, Student Achievement, Assessment & Instruction, Technology & Digital Learning Solutions.
Students for Social Justice
A 75-minute session where students will share a project from their district that focused on social issues and civic engagement.
Tag Team Talk
A 20-minute engagement between a board president and superintendent that presents "ideas worth spreading".
The Solution Room
A 75-minute session led by a commercial company who will share their industry expertise and provoke critical thinking.
HOW PROPOSALS WILL BE REVIEWED
A diverse committee of selected NYSSBA staff with years of experience in leadership development, member relations, policy and marketing and communications will evaluate each submission using a Likert scale to measure agreement based on the following five criteria:
1. Overall quality
2. Relevance specific to school board member audience
3. Ability to inspire action or provide a solution
4. Originality
5. Interactive program design
We receive several hundred submissions each year, so please understand this is a difficult and highly selective process. Only one submission per author and only one submission per district/organization will be sent to the review committee for consideration.
DECISION DEADLINE
All notification of accepted or declined proposals will be done via email - please be sure the email address provided is correct. If you do not receive an email by Friday, May 26, 2023, please contact Jennifer Kearney at jennifer.kearney@nyssba.org. Submissions to The Solution Room should contact Anna O'Hara at anna.ohara@nyssba.org.
