IMPORTANT INFORMATION: READ THIS SECTION BEFORE BEGINNING A ‎SUBMISSION!

‎ ‎1. You may submit your abstract to NAEMSP if the same abstract was recently presented or is ‎scheduled to be presented at a separate meeting as long as the abstract presentation at a ‎separate meeting was no more than 120 days prior to the NAEMSP Annual Meeting - no ‎exceptions.

‎ ‎2. Data splitting is not permitted; each abstract must have a distinct research ‎question/hypothesis.

‎ ‎3. You may submit your abstract if you plan to submit a full manuscript for peer-review prior to ‎the NAEMSP Annual Meeting. A full manuscript may be submitted and in review prior to the ‎NAEMSP meeting. However, if the manuscript is accepted and is published (either online or in ‎print) prior to the first day of the NAEMSP meeting, the abstract submission will be withdrawn, ‎not presented, and not eligible for awards. Please strongly consider this point before submitting ‎the abstract. In addition, if the abstract itself has already been published by another ‎organization or in another journal, you may not submit the research to NAEMSP.

‎ ‎4. IRB (or equivalent) review is required before submission, with few ‎exceptions. Accepted abstracts are presented as part of the research program at ‎the NAEMSP Annual Meeting and are considered research. Investigators are not allowed to self-‎determine the need for IRB review (or equivalent), and abstracts must go through an IRB-review ‎process prior to submission. Exceptions include obvious non-human subjects categories of ‎systematic reviews and meta-analyses. In most cases where the author feels the subject doesn’t ‎require full IRB review, NAEMSP requires authors to, at a minimum, check with the IRB to ‎ensure the project doesn’t need be subjected to full IRB review. If you think it doesn’t need to ‎go through the IRB, please double check. Questions can be directed to the Research Committee ‎Chair, Amber Rice at arice@aemrc.arizona.edu.‎

‎ 5. NAEMSP will accept quality improvement abstracts for presentation at the Annual Meeting. Quality Improvement abstracts MUST utilize established quality improvement methodology. Quality Improvement studies do not need IRB approval or review, but can still be considered if they do. The Quality Committee will review abstracts for compliance with this criteria. Any abstract that appears to be research, even if it is submitted initially as quality, will be returned to the Research Committee for evaluation. NAEMSP will not consider scholarly activity that resembles research under the label of quality improvement purely to avoid IRB review and approval. ‎
