APT is offering two types of grants for the 2022 conference in Detroit, thanks to support from the Getty Foundation: Latin American Scholar Grants and Equity Scholar Grants. APT now has a successful Latin American-Caribbean Chapter (LACC) and strong participation in our Annual Conference from preservation practitioners from that region. This year we expanding the grants to attend our November 7-12 conference in Detroit, Michigan with ten Latin American Scholarships and nine Equity Scholarships. This program builds upon other APT diversity efforts including the formation of our Inclusion Advocacy Committee and several Community Engagement Projects we’ve completed in the last several years.
Requirements
To qualify for a 2022 Getty Grant each candidate must:
Be a permanent resident in Latin America or the Caribbean. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from Cuba.
Or, Equity Candidates must:Be of minoritized or underrepresented racial, ethnic, or cultural background. This scholarship welcomes BIPOC candidates.

ReimbursementAir and Ground
Recipients of the grant must book and prepay for economy round trip air transportation from their place of residence to Detroit, Michigan and ground transportation expenses, both in their place of residence and in Detroit. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by wire transfer after the conference and once receipts and a program evaluation form have been submitted to APT.
A per diem of $64 per day for 5 days for miscellaneous onsite expenses will be distributed in US dollars at the beginning of the conference.
APT will pay the hotel directly for up to (5) nights for each grant recipient.
The scholarship includes conference registration, and one half-day field session. Grant recipients choosing to attend additional field sessions or workshops would be required to cover the cost of additional fee events.
IMPORTANT: Grant recipients, who for any reason do not register at the conference or decide not to attend the conference, will not be reimbursed any fees or costs they incur.

To qualify for a 2022 Getty Grant each candidate must:
- Be a current APT member at the time of conference registration if accepted to receive a scholarship. (APT membership is not required to apply for a scholarship.)
- Be able to actively participate in English spoken sessions during the conference. (Spanish/English translation will be available for much of the conference, but in order to fully engage with other participants on the level we desire to build relationships, a strong proficiency in English is necessary.)
- Submit a detailed budget for their personal travel costs.
- Be able to pay for their airfare and ground transportation in their home country in advance. These expenses will be reimbursed via wire transfer following the conference.
- Complete the grant application, including a justification why the review committee should select them as someone who will professionally benefit from the scholarship and whose attendance will benefit the preservation movement and APT.
- Submit a resume/curriculum vitae.
- Prepare a poster highlighting your work and be willing to discuss it with conference attendees.
