Presentation Types:
  • Oral Presentation | Accepted oral presentations will be required to submit a manuscript toThe American Surgeon. If your abstract is not selected as an Oral presentation, it will automatically be considered for a Quickshot Oral presentation.
  • Quickshot Oral Presentation | Quickshot Oral presentations may be formatted as scientific presentations or case reports. Quickshot Oral presentations are encouraged, but not required, to submit a manuscript to The American Surgeon. Submissions will be considered for non-podium presentation opportunities.
  • Video Presentation (8 min) | Video presentations do not require manuscript submission. However, accepted videos will be invited to submit to The American Surgeon at the author's discretion. If your video is not selected for a Video podium presentation, it will be considered for a Video Quickshot Oral presentation.

Format:
  • The abstract body (not counting abstract title or author string) must not exceed 400 words
  • One optional graph/photo or table is accepted (.jpg format only)
  • Video format: Must not exceed 8 minutes, sound optional (MOV or MP4 formats only)
  • No reference to the authors or the institution should appear within the body of the abstract
  • You do not need to be a Southeastern Surgical Congress member to submit an abstract for consideration. However, if none of the authors are SESC members, you will need a member to sponsor your submission. For assistance please email sesc@lp-etc.com

Calling Trainees! Apply for Award Competitions
  • NEW Young Investigator Research Award
    On behalf of the SESC Foundation, we invite you to apply for the new Young Investigator Research Award! The purpose of this award is to recognize and promote the abstract with the most promising research by a medical student or resident author. The award is valued at $1,000 and is to be used to offset the costs of travel and accommodation for the trainee at the Annual Meeting. To qualify, at least one of the authors must be a SESC member in good standing. Additionally, the first author/presenter must be a medical student or resident at the time of the SESC 2021 Annual Meeting. Within the abstract submission form, indicate your eligibility and submit a brief statement (250 words max) describing your research ambitions to be considered.

  • Gold Medal Award
    The Gold Medal Award Competition is a time-honored tradition at the SESC Annual Meeting. Six abstracts will be selected to enter the competition and the presentations will be prominently featured at the annual meeting, where the authors will compete for awards. To qualify, at least one of the authors must be a member in good standing with SESC. Additionally, the first author/presenter must be a medical student, resident or fellow at the time of the SESC 2021 Annual Meeting.

    Duplicate Submission Policy:
    Abstracts that have been previously presented at a state or local level are permitted to submit to the SESC, contingent that the prior presentation did not result in formal publication.
